Up for Adoption...

.

Mercury

- gelding
- chestnut pinto
- about 31"
- four years old

Mercury is now up to date on everything and recovered from his gelding operation.

Due to past abuse, Mercury is a little wary of being handled loose, but he is a gem once he's haltered. No problem going in and out of the trailer and on the weigh scales! He seems very sweet and is very energetic. He has potential as a driving horse! I would not recommend him for small children as he is a quick mover when startled.

Adoption fee: $725

Robin- gelding- red roan- 12.2hh- in his mid-late twentiesRobin has just arrived and is settling in to the Paddocks.  The vet pulled blood to do a chem panel to take a look for Cushings indicators and the results are now in.  His indicators are through the roof and he is a very sick pony.  Due to having the disease untreated for so long, Robin has used up his body's resources and has nothing left to give.  Hopefully with a carefully planned diet for weight gain, and Cushings medication, he'll pull through.  Our vet is kindly donating this medication and will be keeping a very close eye on his progress. The farrier came last week and made great progress on his feet.  The Cushings has caused him to founder and he will need many trims to get his feet under control.  However, he is walking much more freely now that his toes are shorter.Robin had his teeth done and though aged, he is fully capable of eating hay and anything else that meets his approval!  He also had a structural allignment session and had many kinks and jams straightened out.  He should be feeling much better now!It not yet clear if Robin will be able to make a recovery.  Keep your fingers crossed for this sweet old boy.  His spirit is yet undamaged and he has a great interest in all that goes on around him.  We are hopeful.GREAT NEWS:  Once he is stable, Robin will be going to a wonderful new home!  He's one lucky pony!  He will be carefully monitored and re-assessed before winter to ensure that he is healthy enough to thrive, not just survive.info@pispqueakpaddocks.com604-316-5060

The following is a Blog for Pipsqueak Paddocks.

This is intended to let potential adopters see more of the personality of the Minis they may be interested in.  Also, it is for the general public to have a glimpse of our daily activities and adventures.

Many thanks to our wonderful volunteer, Kristie, who provides us with most of the terrific pictures that we use!

Weigh-In!

We weighed everybody for a health-check a couple of days ago!  Everyone is doing great, losing or gaining appropriately!

Jupiter - down to 246 from his original 320!  He's got about 30 more to lose.
Bolero - down to 400 from his original 435.  He's got about 50 more to lose.
Mercury - up to 228 from 193.  He is now right where he should be!
Cavalier - he is at 190 and needs to gain about 25 - 30 pounds.
Robin - up to 496 from 478!  18 pounds gained already!  Go Robin!

Full House!

Well, we've just had word that Rufio will be returning to us on Monday.  We are so excited to see the change in him!  I'll be getting a lesson when we go so that I'll know what exercises to keep up on with him.  He will be up for Adoption as soon as I get a handle on the changes in his personality and attitude.

So, we've stepped up Cavalier's introduction to Mercury and Robin in order that Rufio will have a pen to return to!  They had SO much fun yesterday!  I don't think it will be a problem for them to live together.  Cavalier immediately had a rip-roaring buck and gallop fest in the "BIG" paddock.  He got Merc and Robin all riled up... Robin even RAN!  LOL! I went to get my camera and of course, they stopped as soon as I got back!  But, later on Mercury and Cavalier were at it again, so I got some cool shots and video for ya'll!

Here's Mercury and Cavalier wrestling.

Here they are, wrestling some more.

And here Merc and Cavalier are wrestling until Robin gets all grumpy and tells them to "stop having fun!"  LOL

Here are the thundering hooves of Pipsqueak Paddocks!  ROFLOL!

Here's a shot of Cavalier looking like an angel...

And here's a shot of him looking plain crazy!  LOL

"We weren't doin nuthin!"

Meet Cavalier!

Introducing the cutest little fuzzball - Cavalier!  He is an AMHA registered 18 year old gelding.  He just needs to be caught up on a couple of things, like teeth, and then he'll be ready to go!  He seems very sweet and has the most adorable whinny!  (Don't tell him I said that!)

Everyone else is doing very well.  Mercury and Bolero are still waiting to find their new families.  Robin is a real trooper and should be ready to travel to his new home soon.  Rufio is going to be coming back soon as well, after spending nearly three months with Liz and Jonathan at the Jonathan Field Horsemanship Centre.  We're very excited to see what he's like now!

Great News!

Robin is one lucky pony!  As soon as he is stable, he will be moved to a loving, permanent home!  It is a terrific situation for him with someone who is knowledgable and able to provide him with the best of care.  He is one lucky pony!

Everyone else is doing really well.  Mercury now hangs out with Robin as they are both on the "all you can eat buffet" diet.  They seem to get along nicely.  Bolero and Jupiter hang out between meals, and Mulligan can visit either of them using his "Mully-gate".

Here's a picture of Mercury taking a break from eating to check on Robin's whereabouts.  He likes to be near him.

Update on Robin

Robin has Cushings.  Now, we need to carefully put weight on him and get him started on medication.  Our vet is kindly donating the meds that he needs.  A huge thank you to Dr. Anne Dick!  The farrier came and worked on Robin and he's walking so much better already!  She'll be back in a couple of weeks to have another go.  He has foundered.

Robin has no reserves to deal with stress.  We are trying to keep things as low-key as we can, though he does have a lot of people to see and things to be done to him.  He had a down day after worming, but has perked up again.  I would not call his appetite hearty, but we've put hay in all of his favourite hang-out spots and he seems to be eating enough throughout the day.  After many hours, he is almost combed out.  I wanted to be sure to get through that bearskin rug before it rained again.

Robin should be able to pull through if he will eat, and if he responds well to the medication.  Everything else is managable.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Mercury is up for Adoption!

Mercury is now officially healthy and ready to go!  Check the available section for details.

Meet Robin!

Well... we picked up another surrender today.  We really try to stick to Minis, but we keep coming across ponies who need us too!  Robin is 12.2hh, but sweet as pie and he does a great Mini impression!  He's going to be in rehab for the next six weeks to two months and then hopefully he'll be healthy enough to find a new home.  Robin is quite thin and may have Cushings.  The vet pulled blood today to check for Cushings indicators and we consulted on how to bring his weight up carefully.  The farrier is coming on Friday to start working on his feet... they are very long and will take a while to get under control.  He'll have everything from dental work to worming happening in the next week or so.

Robin is very friendly and calls to us whenever we walk by... or whenever we walk anywhere actually!  LOL  He comes right over to us when we go through the Paddocks and seems to love attention.  He was great for the vet and I expect he'll behave nicely for the farrier as well.  It's going to be a long haul for him, but we're happy to have him here and his sweet disposition makes working with him very rewarding.  He's still not quite dried out in these pictures, but he should be by tommorow and then he'll be groomed from head to tail!  His hair is incredibly long (about four inches) so we're going to have to get out the dog dematters I think!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Well, I've had a busy weekend away at a trade show, but Kristie sent me some pictures of the ponies and I thought I would share them.  Prairie went to his new home on Saturday and I'm sure is getting lots of love today!

Bolero and Mercury are both doing well.  I'm going to check Mercury's incisions tomorrow in the daylight and if all is well, he should be up for Adoption very soon!  I am hoping for good weather all week so that I can see what he thinks of the driving harness!  Bolero is getting lots of walks and is very good out and about town.

On Tuesday I am going to look at a pony who may need our help - so we'll see where that leads!

Enjoy these pictures - thanks Kristie!

It's February!

Well... this year is going pretty fast already!

Prairie has been adopted! Yay! He has found an awesome home where he'll have horses and humans to play with!

Rufio is still at Jonathan Field's place and they are keeping him there for a while yet. They are just loving him and he's apparently going to be the star in their next DVD!

Bolero is doing well. He is starting to move around a lot more in the afternoon playtimes. He's going for longer walks now and I'm still threatening him with driving if I can get my hands on a bigger harness!

Mercury was gelded last week and he's recovering well. Next week I may start ground driving him if the weather holds. He is going to be spiffy under cart! He's so energetic! His bald spots are nearly gone and his weight is looking great!

We have a new fundraiser going on! Click on the "Art Fundraiser" button in the menu to view some very nice Limited Edition prints that have been donated to Pipsqueak Paddocks for us to sell!

It's only February, but the daffodils are already up so I'll say - Happy Spring everyone!

The boys playing!

I got some great shots and videos of the boys playing today.  It was very overcast, so not the greatest quality, but hey -  you get the gist.  Now, Prairie does play rough, but we are always in the paddock with them so that we can supervise.  We only leave him alone with Rufio as he's much bigger and can handle him!  LOL
