It's February!
Hiya!
Well... January is done! A month of freezing temperatures, piles of snow, and many hours of watching Dash through the night! It was cold, it was tiring - but we've survived! LOL I had mentioned that the horses loved the snow... here is a video clip of them having some fun! Magpie is doing very well. I took some new pictures on Monday, you can click here to see her progress. The vet has us down to every three days now for the bandage changes. It's been nearly two months, and it looks like two, three or more to go. She is a real trooper though. Epic has been Adopted by his foster family! He just fit right in there and they couldn't part with him! Mac's surgery went very well. He was, as suspected, an abdominal crypt. There was no way that was coming out without the more extensive surgery. He is healing up well and hopes to make an appearance at the Jonathan Field Clinic on the 18th! Legend has returned from his foster home, as I want to take him as my partner in the Jonathan Field Clinic. I am hoping to get through some of his fear and get some good pointers at the Clinic on how to deal with abused horses. Time and TLC are greatly helped by knowledgeable handling when it comes to the abuse cases. I am hoping to improve my skills in this area. We always seem to have some each year that are just terrified and I want to help them swiftly and confidently. It seems as though Dash and her foal have got a good home lined up. They won't go anywhere until the baby is old enough to travel safely, but they've got a terrific place waiting for them! Now there are even more folks addicted to the Dash-Cam, and with good reason! Please check out our "LOVE 14" campaign! Thank you all for your support! LOL... here are a couple of pictures of Rarity from her Adopter. She wanted to know exactly what kind of Mini I had sent her... she was sure she remembered me guaranteeing that she would stay white! ROFLOL Upon delivery... ![]() ... and the next day! LOL ![]() ZZZZzzzzzzzzzz....
Hiya!
Sorry I haven't written much lately... I am sleepy! LOL I have the "even-hours" shift to check on Dash. :D It has been a CRAZY week weather-wise! We had an incredible amount of snow and insane winds! The drifts were waist high in some places and it got down to minus 25. We usually don't even go below zero! The horses loved it though. They kept running through the snow like they were in some kind of sappy, slow motion advertisement on TV! LOL Now, the snow has started to melt and we'll be dealing with slush for a few days. Thanks to my awesome volunteers today though, it won't be as bad as I had feared. We got a lot of the accumulated mess cleaned up and chipped the ice out of the swail so that once it starts raining, it has somewhere to go! So, on to the list! Magpie is doing awesome! The vet has us changing the bandages every other day now - which is terrific! She still has her great attitude toward it all - she's just a real trooper. Ajax and Bobbysox are indeed Adopted! Their family decided that they can make it work at the facility, even if they can't share a space, but we're still very hopeful that they'll be a good match. Ajax is hanging out here until there is space at Bobbysox's current barn. They'll go home in the Spring from there, once their new barn is complete. Hmmm.... I am watching Dash as I'm typing this and she is acting weird. She started bagging up yesterday, so it could be anytime! Hmmm.... Anyhoo, on with the list! Willow is doing terrific! She is getting tons of love, attention and some physical therapy - and it shows! She can run! Legend has a new BFF at his foster home. There is a sweet little girl there who spends tons of time working with him. It is just magical to see! Epic and Hula are doing well too... just doing what they do. Duchess has been Adopted by her foster family! Duke has been Adopted and is now on Vancouver Island. Friday has been Adopted by his driving trainer and is going to have a good year of training! I can't wait to see him competing! Starbright is revealing quite the personality and spunk. I am hoping her health will be improved enough by sometime in February to go up for Adoption. She's a funny old gal! LOL Rarity and Pinkie Pie have been Adopted. Rarity will be going to live with Candy and Shindig, while Pie is going to live with Fiction! Looks like they'll be leaving on their journey to the Island at the end of next week. Mac is scheduled for surgery on Tuesday. Turns out he is likely a cryptorchid. So it is a bit more complex of a surgery than normal. We're setting up an operating table in the shop. Should be interesting - he's our first crypt out of nearly 50 surgeries! Applejack, Twilight and little Fluttershy are doing great. They have bright eyes and lots of energy. The fillies are nearly weaned, so that should give Applejack and Twilight a bit of a break until they foal out again in the Spring. Dash should foal within the next two weeks... and as I watch her out of the corner of my eye... I think it may be sooner rather than later! Shy and Pie! Mini Clinic with Jonathan Field!
Wahoo! We get to have another Clinic with Jonathan again this year!
February 18th, 2012 At the Field Horsemanship Centre, Abbotsford BC Starts at 9:00 Auditors are welcome, it's just $25 at the gate. If you would like more information, or if you would like to be a participant, please email me: bec@pipsqueakpaddocks.com Happy New Year!
Well... what a whirlwind couple of weeks it has been! Busy, busy, busy!
At the very end of the year, Ajax arrived. We then had to transport most of the current gang to Foster Homes because on New Year's day, we have 7 new arrivals! So, I'll go through the list of horses... we're up to 18 again I believe. Magpie - she is doing phenominally well! The vet has cut out the dead tendon over the exposed bone, because it's not exposed anymore! The tissue from the other side has grown under the flap and the bone is now covered! The smallest of the four wounds is completely closed now, with another wound well on it's way. It's just the exposed tendon on the back of her right hind that is slow going. That is just due to the fact that the tendon slides with every step. It all looks as healthy as it could be though. It just takes time. Ajax - is a very nice guy! We had him gelded and he's just hanging out and healing. Once he has healed up, he will be going to Bobbysox's foster home to see if they get along. If everything pans out well, then both boys will be Adopted together! Here's hoping! ![]() Rhapsody is now Adopted by his awesome foster-mom, Tara. That was a secret I had to keep for a LONG time so that her mom could surprise her on Christmas morning! So awesome! Baron, Lulu and Fable are all at their new homes as well, living it up! Willow, Legend, Epic, Duke, Duchess, Hula, Bobbysox, Starbright and Friday are still doing what they do at their foster homes. They are all doing very well. That leaves us with Magpie, Ajax and Mulligan here along with the new herd! My daughter has put her foot down and claimed naming rights. She has never had the opportunity to name incoming Minis and she just couldn't pass up the fact that there were six girls and her favourite TV show has six main characters. So, they are now named after the My Little Ponies! LOL "Rarity" "Twilight Sparkle" "Rainbow Dash" "Pinkie Pie" "Fluttershy" "Applejack" There is also a boy who came with them, Rarity's two year old colt, who our friend Shawn named after one of the boy MLP's. So, he is now "Big Macintosh". LOL So, it turns out that Rainbow Dash, Twilight Sparkle and Applejack are all in foal. Dash is due anytime and the other two should make an appearance later in the Spring. Here's a picture of Karen (one of our awesome volunteers) with Dash and others from the MLP herd. ![]() 'Tis the Season!
Hi folks!
Well, I must say, I am simply overwhelmed by the response to Mulligan's letter to Santa, and the support for Magpie. Each time I open the mailbox, it is full of letters for Mulligan and packages of bandages for Magpie! Not to mention all of the people who have stopped by with items that the Minis need! Thank you to everyone who has the Minis in their hearts this holiday season! You ALL have made an incredible difference! There's no stopping us in 2012! Let's see... what's been going on? Well, here is a video of Lulu tearing up the Paddocks in one of her playful moments. She gets quite a few of these "moments"! LOL - we're going to miss her zest for life, that's for sure! She's scheduled to go home with Fable at the end of the month. Fable is recovering well from his gelding surgery and is getting braver every day. Baron is doing very well and is all ready to go home on Boxing Day. His new family just can't wait! Bobbysox has been getting visits from some prospective Adopters. They have been working with him at his Foster Home and things are going pretty good. He is an interesting guy, so we want to be sure of a good fit before he goes anywhere. LOL Hula, Willow, Starbright, Rhapsody, Friday and Duchess are all doing well in their Foster Homes. Here's Willow all snuggled in with her buddy. ![]() And here's Starbright. She is doing just fabulous! Packing on the pounds and coming to life! Magpie is doing really well! The vet will be out again after Christmas for another check. She is alert, eating well and healing at an amazing rate! Legend, Epic and Duke are doing great too. I let the whole gang, except Magpie, mingle when I'm out doing chores. The three big boys love to wrestle! Duke has lost his stallion ego and loves to have fun now. I let Lulu in with the gang for the first time yesterday and he didn't even bat an eye at there being a mare in the mix... even when she was running around like a lunatic and bumping right into him! LOL Here's Epic having a nap. Mingling
Hiya! Okay... here we go. First off, I just have to say how amazed and thankful I am for the response of our supporters regarding Magpie and Meadowlark. I truly appreciate all of the calls, emails and Facebook messages offering condolences for Meadowlark. She will have a great legacy here with all of the donations and new supporters that her day with us has inspired.
Magpie is doing very well! Here is a photo of her relaxing in the sunshine. The vet is very pleased with how the wounds look and we are trucking along with the daily bandaging and meds etc. Again - WOW - what an amazing response with donations of bandaging materials and funds for her vet bills! She's got nothing to worry about... other than that her socks don't match! :D Let's see... what's going on with everyone else? Myth has been Adopted and is in her new home on the Island. She is living it up with a huge space to run and a new Mini friend! Fiction has also been Adopted and will be going to the Island as well, tomorrow morning. The fostered horses, Bobbysox, Rhapsody, Hula, Willow, Starbright, Duchess and Friday are doing what they do. Willow had a therapy session and should be feeling much better now that more things are where they should be. I look forward to seeing her progress as she gains strength and condition. I went and visited Hula and she is doing terrific - what a cute pair she makes with her 17+ hand high buddy! LOL Legend has taken a real shine to the babies and has assigned himself as their protector. Lulu loves to play, but she's not allowed near the colts if they are hanging with Uncle Legend. Baron loves to tussle with her though and that whole gang is spending their days together now. Epic and Duke are nearly ready to mingle with the gang, but I will remove Lulu from the picture when those boys come out to play. Duke is still too fresh to chill out if there's a mare around. So, we'll see how things go this next week. We're just loving the sunshine and good times! Here is a cute little video of some of the mingling this week. The first part is right when I let Legend in with the babies - he just went right to them. Magpie and Meadowlark
There are lots of updates to share with you, but I am not feeling up to a big post today. One bright patch - Jet is Adopted and should be home by now. I look forward to seeing the pictures of him there as he's to be a "mini-me" for a Friesian!
However, today was a sad one. We had two new arrivals yesterday. One did not make it and the other is not faring so well, though we are hopeful she will recover. You can read about them in the "Rehabilitation" section for now, and I will write more about it soon. Here is a link to a video shot today... but please be warned - there is graphic content of injuries... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPsqsENOhqk Rest in peace Meadowlark. |
